The concept
What is a CTF?
Capture the Flag is a cybersecurity competition where participants compete to solve puzzles and computer security problems. The ultimate goal is to capture a "flag," usually a secret code hidden in a vulnerable computer system.
Born in 1996 at the DEF CON conference in Las Vegas, this format is now a global standard in cyber events, used in student competitions as well as by companies to assess the skill level of their teams.
There are several game modes: the Jeopardy format, where teams solve independent challenges by category (cryptography, web, forensics, reverse engineering...), the Attack-Defense format, where each team protects its own system while attacking that of the opponents, and a mixed format combining the two approaches.

At the heart of the Lyon Cyber Expo, CTF (Capture The Flag) stands out asthe technical and strategic meeting for CISOs and their cybersecurity teams from companies in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
During a day, Wednesday, September 17, 2025, several teams from the local business community will compete in aseries of challenges.
